Helper spring

My rockshaft has the helper spring bracket. Does anyone know where I can see a picture of the helper spring installed? Went to TM but they didn't show one installed.

Thanks

Moe 1942 is talking about the rear rockshaft with the lever for a helper spring and I am to.http://www.tm-tractor.com/gdr/rearrock1_001.htm This has the bracket for a helper spring. and Moe and I want to see a picture of the setup with a helper spring are someone who has seen it and has a mental picture he can describe. We know about the front helper spring used on the fast hitch.

I had one on my tractor and removed and sold it. I didn't feel it did anything for my setup. It mounts on the rock shaft and the left fender. Takes a special fender that is beefed up with a doubler and has mounting holes for the bracket. I still have the fender installed on my tractor. Not sure if I ever took any pics though. Bill

Sorry Guys, I got messed up too when I described the front one.

I messed up guys. I should have said rear rock shaft. Anyway, thanks for the replies. In the meantime, I found a picture of the setup. I sent it to Jim. WKpoor described it to a T. Sure would like to get a closer look at the setup. The one I sent Jim wasn't all that good. I think it was meant to be used on Cubs without touch control, but would assist the hyd's on Cubs with touch control.

I know Jim was having trouble lifting his scoop and I thought this might help him out.

If you have hydraulics on your tractor the helper spring probably won't help you much. Been there done that. I believe the spring is helpful for manual lift system. That is why I sold mine, it wasn't doing anything to hepl the lift. Fastest most effective way to more lift is bigger cylinders, more pressure, or both. Bill

I think I am a little confused. the manual lift I am familiar with did not have a rear rockshaft. The rear shaft was part of the lever assembly, and it's helper spring did not attach to the fender, but to the angle iron that composed the lift frame.

He is talking about this rear rockshaft. I have one just like it. Its not for the manual lift. The rockshaft which is a part of the manual lift is made diffrent.http://www.tm-tractor.com/gdr/rearrock1_001.htm
There is a front rockshaft which has a arm on it for a helper spring. It is used on the Fast Hitch. So a helper spring must help with the heaver fast hitch hardware.

Jim,

Thanks for getting us squared away. Now that we have a correct picture I can see how that setup would be a great assist to the touch control.

Now if we can find someone with a OEM spring for comparison. Length, coil diameter and overall diameter.

George W, can you come to the rescue?

I'll try.

I don't have a touch control with an assist spring, but Marilyn's hand lift is close by. The spring is under a little tension so the active length as measured isn't accurate...14 1/2". Based on wire size, it should measure 12 7/8 active when relaxed. 42 coils of .306" wire with an O.D. of 1.715.

I hope this helps.

George,
Your dimensions should be pretty close, since it is the same part number. The spring link is also the same part on both units (and it looks to me like the attachment points are the same location too). So a hand lift unit with the lever removed should be equivalent.

I have one of the hand lift units that somebody sawed the lever off of. Unfortunately, they also took the helper spring and related parts off.

Thanks for all the great feed back.

If anyone has a spring they would like to part with please Email me so we can work out the details.

If anyone knows of a good suitable sub please point me in the right direction.

I have a spring that was in some Cub stuff that I don't know if it goes on a Cub or not. There are no hook type of anything on either end, just flat. The measurements taken with just a tape are: 20 1/4" long. 1 13/16 " O.D.. The spring material is 5/16" O.D., and it has 39 coils. Any ideas?
