Has anyone used coils from major manufacturers and not those supplied by the tractor aftermarket suppliers?

Years ago (many years --- decades?) I have had the tractor since the 1990's.
I compiled a list ... I think for the IH 185 ... but I could be wrong.

If anyone can say the coils listed below will not work or are a bad idea,

Please say so.

My list contained:

===========
Today I wanted to purchase a coil. Mine is possibly bad. It certainly is rusty. Currently no spark, probably for several reasons.

I cannot find my IH manual to look up the International part numbers in my list... probably for a 4 cylinder scout or scout II.

Duralast makes a LU800 ... I am assuming named after the Wells LU800 (which I think was popular with MG people)
This one:
Duralast Ignition Coil LU800 Limited Lifetime Warranty $41 at Autozone
Or ... Standard Motor Products UC15 / UC15T / UC15X
This one:
Standard Motor Products UC15T at Rockauto for $16.77

The unknown manufacturers in the tractor supply chain leave me cold.

What think you?

I think I may have purchased a Delco coil from this list ... not positive.
The name has worn off or is covered. Well over a decade ago.

Amazing what we forget.

The rockauto site even has instructions from standard power. Connect (-) terminal to distributor for negative ground system.

And then there are the points and condenser. A whole other topic.

The same list had an AC Delco A202Z condenser as a possible compatible.
I am thinking it might be too large in diameter... from memory.
Capacitance is always an open question. Nobody publishes specifications
and measuring is not so easy. Lucky if you get it correct to balance the point erosion.

Thank you for any response.

Welcome to the forum. Since the Number Series 185 (and all the rest) use the IH C60 engine that's about as good a starting point as you can expect to find. Here's a list that I've copied from other posters. Something to be aware of if it's 12v, is do you need a resistor. If yes, I prefer the type with internal resistor. JMHO Stan

Thank you for your list. I must transcribe it! Gems on it that I was unaware of. Oil filters, seals, bearings, pto pulley and belt pulley,
Echlin starter switch!,
Borg warner H54 points!,
Spark plugs ... I choose Autolite 3116 and stuck with the .023 gap even though the IH 185 gap is .025.
I compared (in my hand) the other plug options (including from Japan).
Autolite inserts over 1mm farther in. Nice build. and the center electrode lines up properly (opinion) just a bit out from the arched electrode.
Very different with the other plugs I purchased. However, I have yet to see how well they wear. Probably will have to go back to .025 but I found
several forum notes about less fowling at .023. I was curious if I could detect a difference in running or spark.
Borg Warner Condenser HG5!
Coil: Standard Motor Products IH-10 ... is for older tractors with external resistors. Not the IH 185. But fits well with your machines! Wow.
Oil Filters for (376373r91) AC P-321, Fram c-235, Napa 1153, and !!! Wix 51153 !!!
Timing Cover Gasket Fel-Pro TCS45115
Timkin Front Wheel Bearings!!!

Thank you.

Thank you for your list. I must transcribe it!.......................Thank you.
You're welcome. tst also posted a similar list but I can't locate it. If you want to keep the info you should be able to open the attachment and save it as a picture, it's just a regular jpg file. Stan
