GT1554 starter

My son in law has a GT1554 and it has always been slow to start (starter drags and then speeds up) but lately it won't start and now it doesn't make a sound. Can't even jump it off. I have an LT1042 and it drags and always has. I told him to take the starter off and take it to a starter and generator shop in town for a checkup. I would appreciate any input on this problem and would like to know if this is common among Cadets.

Yea, unfortunately the Kohler Courage engines are not that great and that goes for all of their associated equipment. Make sure you have a good ground, strong battery. After that the only thing you can do is have the starter checked out.
