My next problem is now that I have spark again it cranks but not a whisper! After fixing distributor problem. I static timed the ignition setting the rotor to the #1 spark plug position with the timing mark aligned with the pointer on the crankshaft. I removed all spark plugs and confrimed they were indeed sparking. I replaced them and cracked the starter. Not a whisper, not a pop, nothing to indicate she wanted to start. I sprayed the intake liberally with starting fluid and still not a pop. Anoyone have a thought of what to check next?

Double check the placement of the plug wires at the distributor cap. Easy to get them mixed up. Next check for compression on each cylinder. You could have some stuck valves or the compression might be too low to start. If that's the case you could try pull starting. JMHO Stan

Are you getting fuel? Are the plugs wet or dry after cranking it over? Check fuel flow from tank to sediment bowl to carb. Could be the needle is stuck closed from some gunk or residue not allowing any fuel into the float bowl. Float stuck, improperly adjusted, etc.

Double check timing and plug wire placement. If the timing is way off or plug wires are mixed up it may not start.

take the pipe plug above the carb out and dump gas in there and 99% of the time they start. every IH tractor i have here has to be started that way every time i need to use them. 340, 504, 140, 240, all 3 cubs, and the list goes on the only one here that always starts is the 2444 industrial. ---starting fluid messes them up and they wont start on it anyway.
