Got me a 55!

Finally got me a cub. 187380. I guess it is one of the early 11 bars. Needs lots of tinkering and want to get some cultivators and sickle mower. Does run but not very good.
1. The hydraulic reservoir was empty and tc not working. I put some pil in it and it was leaking very badly at manifold. Hopefully only a gasket. Engine crankcase filled up so I guess pump is leaking there. Pump rebuild? Would those two Hopefully with full resoirvoir let the tc start working?
2. Wrong carb, has larger one. Governor linkage messed up, im sure i can readjust that when i get a new carb.
3. Starter does not appear to be correct, I'll get a picture tomorrow. Starter switch is turned to the right where pull rod is not even close to hooking up. Any suggestions.

That is a Zenith carburetor. It will work satisfactorily on your Cub, unless you want an original style carb. It was sold by IH as a replacement carb post-1975 for the Cub.

Ok thanks. I know it is much larger than the intake manifold and has an air leak there. I guess a new gasket would solve that.

Also before you put the new gasket on, you may want to straighten or file the carburetor flange to make it flat if it’s warped.

The triangular shape is what caught my attention. Pullys mounted on the frame would likely indicate a mower. If they are mounted vertically it turns the belt from horizontal to vertical to attach to the PTO. Stan

It also has part of the universal mounting frames. So there may be pieces of 3 different implements attached. I suggest going back to whomever you got it from and seeing if any other pieces are still kicking around.

Unfortunately they didn't have anything else. I think your right, the frame is part of a disc plow and the rear pulleys for a mower as it also has a pulley on pto.

Hi,
Don't run the engine if the Touch Control is low on fluid, the pump has to have fluid for lubrication inside it.

IH used the Zenith carburetor starting at Cub serial number 248125, which was made during 1975, until the end of Cubs. They used a manifold that was made for it to fit right.
The IH carburetor has a 3/4" throttle valve, and the Zenith has 1" I think.
They have said on here the Zenith valve can hit in the hole in the IH carb manifold.
If you are going to use the Zenith carb, be sure the valve works without hitting inside the hole. They have said to file or grind the hole some so the valve will go fully open, if needed.
I would check it closely before filing or grinding the hole, to be sure you don't grind through the casting hole.
Below is a picture of an IH carb from TM Tractor Parts. They originally have studs with nuts and lock washers to hold it to the manifold.

My starter must not be factory as the switch as in those pictures is almost in line with top hole where mine turned almost a 1/4 turn to the right?

I added some to my post after you saw it, I guess. Check it closely and don't grind through the casting hole. I don't know what thickness it is at the hole.

If you have purchased a Chinese repro IH Cub carburetor on eBay, here are several things for you to consider…
As soon as you receive your carburetor, remove the four (4) screws holding the top and bottom together. Carefully separate the two halves by pulling them straight apart, being sure not to twist or rotate the parts relative to each other. Look at the area of the bottom located in the black circle in the image below.

If the hole is not drilled completely through, as shown in the image, it should be. You have two choices. You...

I have a Zenith Carburetor on my 1948 Cub. My Cub has the original manifold. It runs great. I like it better than the original IH -- it idles down better and runs smooth.

I didn't have any problem with interference of the throttle valve and the manifold. Be sure to use the gasket that comes with the Zenith carb. If there is an interference problem, install a second gasket between the carb and the manifold. This will move the throttle valve farther away from the manifold.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the hydraulics. Im rebuilding the pump and putting a new gasket at the tc where manifold connects.
