getting a city cub road legal

looking for any tips on appropriate DMV paperwork...I've got the smv
sign and flashing lights down, but Kalifornia's staggering vehicle
registration maze has me puzzled. maybe what's legal in your state
may give me a clue.

did you work yours through as a parade vehicle?
register as an implement of husbandry and carry a box of popcorn?

until then stuck in the garage on the left coast. ;-)

btw got my custom decals mounted...I know purists will shudder,
but that circle cub icon is just too cool not to use:

Look up California's agricultural laws. Some place in there will be requirements for driving tractors and other agriculutral equipment on state roads.

Don't know about California, but in other states there is not registration require for agricultural equipment.

While on this topic. Combines and other implements are really getting hugh. Last trip to Iowa there were three combines, without headers, in a row, taking up all of one lane and part of another. Headers were on other flat beds and the combines had lead and rear vehicles.

In Ohio, for a vehicle the size of a Cub, during daylight hours, you just stick on a SMV sign like shown below and go. After dark, it gets more complicated, much more. No registration, though.

thanks all...calcub that's a huge help

The wiring harness looks great. Did you fab it? If so, any tips?

the harness and plugwires are from Brillman. he built a plugwire set for me with the rajah
terminals for just the added cost of the terminals. his stock cub harness (mine anyway)
wires to the reg and generator/reg originally were a natural/white base with varied colored
hash marks. since my cub is a black motor with red accents, i asked for those natural
to be replaced with alternates in red. I enclosed most of it that is otherwise hidden by
the hood in black shrink tubing. btw Brillman does beautiful work...original fabric wire,
soldered and shrink tubed ends and the price made it worthwhile to let a pro do it right.

i'm fussy about wiring, more than most i suppose, in visual neatness. imo makes it easier to
trace problems and trouble shoot down the road. wire naturally wants to go a certain way,
i just steer it and massage the bundle so everything flows together neatly. discrete
cable ties here and there to help keep its shape and orientation, dielectric grease at
every connection. cub was easy compared to some custom motorcycles I've done where
_everything_ is out there in the breeze. :-)

If you look at sections 36005-36015 of the california vehicle codes you don't need to register it or get an I.D. plate to drive on surface streets unless you plan to pull a trailer. I know in LA and Kern counties you do need a warning triangle on the back of the tractor.

Here is the California DMV code section specifying proper placement of slow moving vehicle emblems.

V C Section 24615 Slow Moving Vehicle Emblem

Slow-Moving Vehicle Emblem

24615. It is unlawful to operate upon a public highway any vehicle or combination of vehicles, which is designed to be and is operated at a speed of 25 miles per hour or less, unless the rearmost vehicle displays a "slow-moving vehicle emblem," except upon vehicles used by a utility, whether publicly or privately owned, for the construction, maintenance, or repair of its own facilities or upon vehicles used by highway authorities or bridge or highway districts in highway maintenance, inspection, survey, or construction work, while such vehicle is engaged in work at the jobsite upon a highway. Any other vehicle or combination of vehicles, when operated at a speed of 25 miles per hour or less, may display such emblem. The emblem shall be mounted on the rear of the vehicle, base down, and at a height of not less than three nor more than five feet from ground to base. Such emblem shall consist of a truncated equilateral triangle having a minimum height of 14 inches with a red reflective border not less than 1 3/4 inches in width and a fluorescent orange center.

This emblem shall not be displayed except as permitted or required by this section.

Amended Ch. 287, Stats. 1971. Operative May 3, 1972.

Sorry for the two threads here.

Thanks the wiring harness resource. Just what I needed for my current project. Thanks!
