Gasket on oil filter?

It's time to change the oil in the H. Did that yesterday and removed the old oil filter. I noticed there was no gasket at the mating surface of the cover. I can't for the life of me remember if there was one there before or not - it doesn't seem to leak there, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if it should have a gasket or not? Also, I know it takes six quarts of oil, but is that with or without the amount taken up by the filter?11.jpg

There should be an o-ring in the groove where the cover meets the base.
And it is probably down in the groove where you can't tell if it is there. If you don't have a new one, leave it there. If you have and want to use a new one, be sure to dig all of the old one out.

Yup, it was in there, probably has been for years. I'll change it out next time I change the filter. Thanks guys!

Some, but not all, filters come with the o-ring included. NAPA filters do, or at least did, the last time I bought one.

The one I just got from Tractor Supply had 2 of the o-rings. :D

Sorry to say but NAPA no longer supplies the o-ring with the filter. They could find no part number for the seal even if I wanted to buy one .

i MIGHT BE WRONG.....Not done my oil change in the H for a few years.....I think only only one for the cap....2 for the Cubs...bolt and cap....my lh rear tire is flat and not used the tractor in awhile
