After a hot day working above an engine all day can cause pressure to build up in the tank, so there is a chance of a dangerous release of vapor. The other problem is a vacuum can form because air cannot get down into the tank as the level drops. Quick removal will cause a sudden pressure "thump" which can splash gas/vapor.

Not crazy common, but I'd rather have it and not need it and need it and not have it. Can't be too safe!

I have seen fuel come out of the tank on an old ford tractor when cap was removed. And I mean a lot of gas when we checked fuel level after operating it awhile bushhogging. Thankfully it didn’t catch fire
 
I got my cap a week ago. When I was working my 140 this spring there was a very noticeable amount of gas and a lot of vapor coming out the vent hole in the original cap. It definitely concerned me. I was working the hydraulic unit quite hard lifting my 122 disc turning up a new spot for grain. Things got hot!
 
Thanks for the heads up. Cap ordered, even though I kind of like the “Diesel Fuel only” cap that was on it when I bought it.
