Don McCombs

501 Club
Aerial Solutions out of NC is using our farm for a couple of days to stage their MD500 helicopter for power line tree trimming.

The saw is operated by a two cylinder Kohler gasoline engine in the pod just above the saw. The blades are 18 inch circular saw type blades. Engine start, stop and blade engagement are controlled remotely from the cockpit by the single pilot. Aircraft fuel is provided from a tank on the truck and is hot refueled. The truck carries a spare saw engine, pulleys, belts, blades and numerous other parts.
If you use a phone or tablet, you’ll have to rotate it about halfway through. If you use a desktop or laptop, rotate your head. :D

A couple years ago, we watched as one of those trimmed around the power line, just south of our house. Don, thanks for the info on the setup and operation.
