Fuel stabilizing additive

Running ethanol free gas in my cub and was wondering if adding a fuel stabilizing additive was a good idea will be running it in the winter for snow plowing so it won't sit all winter long. Not sure if tractors back than had such additives or not.
 
If you're regularly filling it up there's no need for any additives. If it was sitting for 6 months or more I'd add some additive or just drain the fuel out of it for use in something else.
 
Yeah if its getting filled on a regular basis then an additive isn't needed. In fact if you are running non-ethanol gas then it doesn't matter. Stabilizing additives are to prevent the ethanol from separating out and binding to ambient moisture and basically adding water to your gas. If the ethenol isn't present then this won't really happen, so really all you need to do to prevent moisture inside the tank is to store it with a full tank to displace the air out.
 
Jeff - I'm curious about your "problems' with Stabil. What are they? I have used Stabil for years in all of my equipment - the Cub, string trimmers, mowers, outboard motors, generator - etc, with zero problems. Some of these machines sit unused for more than half a year, and I've had no problems starting them up after their long rest. Al D
 
I've gotten into the habit of just adding Stabil to my 5-gallon can when I fill it at the gas station. It doesn't hurt any equipment for it to be in there, and that way if I top off a snow blower, generator, or tractor, and it doesnt get used for a few months, there's no worry. Yes, I also only get non-ethanol gas too. I know this works well, as we had a brief power outage last month, and the generator that I hadn't started for well over a year, fired up on the first pull. I couldn't even begin to tell you when I put the gas in that generator, but I know it's been well over a year, since we moved last summer and I didn't use it at all in 2015. Anyway, I figure the Stabil is cheap enough that it is an easy insurance policy!

I do the same thing. I have five 5-gal cans I bought and filled the night before Hurricane Katrina hit. Each gets a shot of Sta-Bil before being refilled.
 
I put the blue Sta-Bil in everything we own and have had no problems at all. The Trac-Vac has it in it and fires up at the beginning of fall every year. I do as y'all have said and put it in my cans before filling anything up.
 
The problem I had was that after adding it to 5 gallon of gas with in 6 months the gas went bad. I had another 5 gallon setting there bought the same time it was good. I could have not added the right amount but I wont use it anymore. I have even added white gas & ever clear from the liquor store before to keep the gas fresh.
It doesn't take much on ever clear.
