Fm radio

In my work shop I’ve always had bad fm reception. I’ve tried several different radios and no good. Lots of static and only one station comes in but still has static.

I have flouresent lights,steel roof and t1-11 siding. (Was bad before I put the steel roof on ).

I bought a used Bose wave radio hoping it would be ok, but still the same. It has a screw fitting for a75 ohm antenna.

All the radios worked ok away from the shop.

My question is would an antenna fix this? If so should I get an inside or outside antenna? What brand or style?

I’ve googled it, but sometimes doing that makes it more confusing.

I'm not good at this sort of thing, but I'd try placing the radio on a window sill. If that works OK and isn't where you want the radio, try an antenna in the window. Otherwise, you probably need an outside antenna. That way maybe the metal roof will block some of the florescent noise rather than the signal.

We installed an external AM/FM rotating antenna on a short mast. The antenna is about 3 feet above the roof peak.

Radio works much better than inside the steel clad shop. Able to pick up AM and FM stations.

I've always had poor FM reception in my shop, too. Signals in this area are not very strong and my LED lights cause interference. I tried a small antennae, on the outside of the building but no help, in my case. Try it, I hope it works for you. My real solution was Serius XM radio. I miss some of the local FM programming but very much enjoy the C D quality music.

I have serious radio on my cell phone, but my WiFi is weak and sometimes doesn’t work in my garage. Not sure how much data it would use. I only have 2 gigs shared

I have an old stereo in my Leonard building and reception was horrible even with the wire type antenna that came with the stereo. I stripped the insulation off the ends of the antenna wire and wrapped them around a couple of sheet metal screws and screwed them to the tubular frame of the building and now get excellent reception. Probably won’t do the stereo any good if I get a lightning strike on or near the building but it was only a 10 dollar yard sale stereo.
