Floor Drain Grate for Shop

Urbish

My shop has a 18-3/4" diameter floor drain hole in the slab with a catch basin below. The cast iron drain grate has a couple of bars broken out. It's only a matter of time before I absent-mindedly drop my foot through this and get severely injured. I'm having trouble finding a replacement drain grate. Do any of you know where I might find one?

Bill Hudson’s idea seems like the simplest solution. Even a series of 1/4 inch holes would still allow drainage whilst not letting bigger objects fall through.

I thought about having one fabricated, but I imagine that will be pretty pricey. I did reach out to East Jordan Iron Works, but they didn't have any offerings that would fit my application (oddly sized). I found a local wholesaler that will do counter sales and has what I need in stock for $107. That's worth avoiding a potential ER visit, especially right now!

$107 isn't bad, having one made would be a lot more than that!

Agreed. Plus the local fab shops that I deal with for work are down to skeleton crews, working only on things that support DoD and health/safety efforts. I'm sure they would squeeze me in, but I'd hate to displace anything of much greater importance right now.

Believe me, an ER visit will cost you more than $107.

Looks like your drain grate is recessed flush around the perimeter with a dome. Here's an alternative to cast iron that may interest you: https://www.greydock.com/fsd-3017-g20b# ... escription

It looks to be a little larger than 18-3/4" dia, but you could contact the company to see if they have anything that would fit your opening.
