Final/differential Dowel Pins

Anyone have the dimensions of the final/differential dowel pins? They are part #350799R1:
http://www.tmtractor.com/new/df/432fp.htm

I have bought them in the past at my local hardware store, but they only have up to 3/8", which is too small. Parts manual only gives part number, not dimension.

I saw there was a post about making them from shouldered bolts, but... don't really have the tools...or inclination to do that!

I think I am just having a brain fahrt! The bolts are 3/8", but are quite loose in the dowel pin hole. A 7/16" bolt fits in snugly, and that is what I measured, but when I went to the hardware store, the largest dowels they had were 3/8". I am assuming the dowel is a 7/16"...just wanted to confirm this if I end up having to order them.

Make your own. Cut off the threads and head of a 7/16" bolt and burr up the sides of the smooth section. Chamfer the ends.

Be done before you can place the order.

Yes, probably Fastenal...but what I am trying to confirm is the size dowel. The dowel hole measures 7/16", the final bolts are 3/8". I was hoping someone would just confirm the 7/16" for the dowel. Last time I needed one, I think I got it at Lowe's (or Town & Country Hdwr).

Thanks...will probably order from Fastenal...around $.89, as opposed to around $2.50 each from TM Tractors. Just deciding whether to go pick them up at Fastenal (about 25 miles) or have them shipped...haven't checked shipping prices vs my time and gas...and exposure! :?

A confirmation is MUCH appreciated! I have enough incorrect hardware in my bins already!

Dale, I only have "2" sizes in my hardware bin. 2 long, 2 short, 2 thick, 2 thin. Still have to go out shopping, for most projects.

Only burr up, anvil and a couple wacks with hammer, the portion of the cut off bolt fitting into the differential.

Couldn't agree more. A 25 min trip to anywhere is an hour round trip. If I had 7/16" bolts (long ones, partially threaded) on hand, I'd do as Eugene suggests. Cut off the head and threads and depending on the bolt length, you would have an 1" or more straight shaft to work with. Have it done before you got 5 miles down the road.

Just saying...

Then again, I'd probably have only one bolt on hand and would need to go into town to get another one! Might as well go by Fastenal and get those pins!

Have over 100 lbs of assorted standard nuts, bolts, and washers. Might take 5 minutes to find two suitable bolts. If not the hardware store is about 1 mile from the house. Fastenal is around 1 1/2 hours round trip. 2 hours if counter service is slow.

EXACTLY!

I wimped out and ordered 8 dowels (4 spares) from Fastenal to be picked up at the store...possibly Friday. Save $9 shipping...dowels were only $.86 each. Gas will be less than the $9 shipping! The problem with ordering extras for spares is first, remembering you HAVE spares, and second, remembering where the heck you PUT them!!

I still have the 2nd final to clean up anyway, so timing will be OK.
Thanks, all!! :hattip:
