Fast hitch

I got a partial fast hitch in a package deal. Needed bar from hydraulic, spring lift, and height adjuster. I purchased all three items but, have realized they are from a lowboy. I have a 55 cub. Hoping I can engineer it to work. This is my second post, waiting on access to a manual. Feeling doubtful.

suggest posting a pic of what you have, there were two fast hitches for a regular cub and all the parts are not the same for the height adjuster

Hi,
A 1955 Cub with a Fast Hitch originally came with a depth control lever to the right side of the seat.
IH used the lever for the first few years of the Fast Hitch, from 1954 - about 1957.
Then they used the crank.
The lever wasn't used on the LoBoys.
Below are pages from the 1955 Cub operator's manual, showing the Cub Fast Hitch.

Below are pages from the Cub parts manual showing the Fast Hitches for the Cub and LoBoy.
Many parts of the LoBoy hitch are different than the Cub hitch.
The Fast Hitches are after the drawbars in the manual.

Below is a post about the Fast Hitch from a few days ago. Read my 2nd post on the page, it has some other info.

The Bails are different to use the lever or the crank. The brackets at the right front of them are different.
The Pull Bars are different shapes for the Cub or LoBoy.
The crank assemblies are different for the Cub or LoBoy.
You can compare part numbers in the manual and see which numbers are the same for the Cub and LoBoy.
tst above makes replacement lift rods, I think.
Below are pictures from TM Tractor Parts of Fast Hitches on a Cub and a LoBoy. :)

Was planning on figuring this out a while back, but life got in the way. Thanks for the replies. Trying to attach pics, but says file to large.

resize your pix in paint to 640 x 480 and they will post. also you can use something like Imgaur or other host. they are free to use.

those are cub, not low boy, lift rod is kinda mangled but could be bent to what it should be, the depth handle is the late style instead of the tall handle, works fine

Sounds good! One of the rear drives has has a mounting hole drilled out, and tapped. Might put a heli coil (spelling) ( not even sure what it's called) in. To make threads smaller. This cub has been heavily used at some point. Rebuild on engine, hydraulic unit, cooling system.....no turning back now.

Hi,
I don't know if your pictures are making the Fast Hitches look assembled wrong from how they really are, or not, but in the pics the bail of the red hitch is upside down.
It should be assembled the way the older looking hitch is, in the pics.
The bail just needs turning so it is facing the other direction, I don't think you need to take it apart.
The bracket for the Depth Adjusting Crank goes at the right front of the hitch.
I think the hitches are facing opposite directions.
Maybe you knew already.

If the hole is drilled out to 3/4" now, that would probably be too big a hole for the 5/8" repair coil. But I'm not sure, maybe someone that has repaired one will comment.

You might try one of the insert repairs (like EX LOC) rather than the HeliCoil. I believe they may have one that can repair it easier and stronger.
I have used their heavy duty ones to repair finals... I think they may have been 7/16" OD & 5/8" ID.

Thank you all so much, I really appreciate your help. It really is amazing how much knowledge you all have shared on this site. I have no support plate on the fender. I am hoping it is apparent where that goes when I get there. What worried me was a lot of these parts where yellow at one time. Hoping to be getting to this soon. Next step will be gathering bolts, and an ez lock.
