Farmall Regular Plowing 1929

Pretty cool!! I have a '29 Regular too and have often wondered how she'd plow being so wide. I'd definitely have to hook it up way off center to keep the tractor wheel and plow furrow in the furrow together.
 
We used to plow all the time with a side draft with the H and the M rather than reset the wheels to plow and then out to cultivate and back to plow. Dad said it used a bit more fuel but not enough to bother resetting the wheels. Remember when the wheels with the screw like rims came out so "all" you had to do was loosen the nuts and spin the axle to change width? Vern
 
We used to have an F30 - the wheel span was as I recall it about 8 feet - it was huge - we plowed with that.
 
Plowing with a little Genius plow. He does not plow ground like we have in this area, or he would NOT bet sitting on that rope. Talk about getting a rope burn. ouch!! Nothing like the thrill of having that break away trip just as you give the rope a good pull to raise the plow.
 
Hi ya John - We've got some pretty heavy clay soil and I've had my share of hot pants whilst plowing our farm. That's my 93 year old dad driving that. The stones are there but due to my relatives picking stones since 1799 - there are less than before. All ya gotta do is look at the stonewalls to see that. BTW that Farmall has been on our farm since it was new in 1929.

We plow now with a 4 sixteens on the JD.

John - been there done that.
We used a short piece of twine tied to the seat and the trip lever. As I recall this was wedged between the spring and the seat. When the plow broke away it pulled out. The twine had to be replaced once in a while but there was always plenty of it. Vern
