Farmall fan hub assembly - 1947 cub

I have found several posts where the fan assembly has been taken off and replaced. I have not found one that tells me how to disassemble the fan assembly. Maybe I have not looked in the right place. Took my assembly off today. In trying to dismantle it, I don't really know what to do.
I finally removed the the fan and the snap ring on the assembly. What comes next? I have another assembly that will be here tomorrow, but I really do want to see that the inside of the assembly and how it is assembled. Any help will be appreciated. :worthy:

Hi,
Below is a page from the Cub parts manual showing the fan. The one in the pic has a nut, number 9, at the front end of the shaft, remove that, and the spiral oiler, 8, and the long bearing, 7, slides off the shaft.

Be sure to put the spiral oiler on the right way on the fan you are going to use.
It won't oil the shaft put on backwards.

The Cub operator's manual has info for filling the fan hub with oil, when you install it on the engine.
It uses light motor oil. :)

if you have a snap ring it is probably a aftermarket replacement fan with a sealed bearing in it

They have said on here that if the fan hub has no screw on the side to put oil in the hub, it is a newer sealed bearing fan assembly.

Well, mine has no hole for oil, so I guess it is a newer style. But it is wobbling and I had to remove it. I have another coming from eBay that was supposed to be here yesterday. Maybe this will be the lucky day. My old one has a snap ring and no nut at all for removal. Got snap ring off, but for the life of me, I do not know how to get spindle out. Guess it must be aftermarket assembly.

As always, thank you all very much

Thank you sir on the advice on a picture. You are certainly correct. Should have done that to begin with. See attached. Never seen one like it. Snap ring goes inside back end of hub. I see no way to get the spindle out other than pressing or driving spindle through from of assembly. If you have questions, please let me know.

Thank you

Hi,
You can't see the nut at the front on the original fan assemblies when the fan is assembled, it is under the cover, which is under the fan blades. The cover has no hole in it, it has to keep the oil in the assembly. The cover is number 11 in the parts pic I posted above.
The parts pic is for the fan with sheet metal pulleys, it says on the page.

Yours has the cast iron pulleys, it looks like in the pics.
If it has no oil filler screw, it is probably the sealed bearing fan assembly.
It might need to be pressed apart, I don't know.
They might intend that it just be replaced with another assembly.

The Case IH dealer where I buy parts was selling new aftermarket fan assemblies for Cubs a few years ago. :)

Yes. That is one of the sealed bearings with a cast iron pulley. Now that you have the snap ring out, you should be able to press the bearing out from the fan end.

Thanks my fellow Cubers. Never have seen one like this. Yep, I did take the blades off and there was a hole with what looks like the end of the spindle. Probably just press it out. I have a new assembly coming. Was supposed to be here on the 10th, but did not make it. Looking for it any day. Was just curious about this one. Thanks for all of the input....

Personally, I would prefer to have the sealed bearing unit. It should just be a matter of pressing the unit apart and replacing a couple bearings, probably 6203's. It would be like new again.
USPS is running at a real snail pace, right now. I've been expecting 3 parcels, that were supposed to arrive early this past week, still waiting. Lots of people Christmas shopping on line, this year, making delivery even slower than it usually is, this time of year. We just have to be patient!

check pulley size, many times the new one has different size pulleys and you need a different belt for the generator

Not that lucky. It appears the bearing is a single unit with the shaft a part of the bearing.
