Factory Horn?

I glanced under the floorboard of my '62 Cub tonight and saw something I had not seen before. It has a wire coming out of it, but it had been broken. Is this a horn? And if so, what makes it blow? I don't see a button anywhere.

This was my helper tonight:

Looks to me like somebody just added an older horn with a piece of angle Iron. You would have to install a horn button and wire it up. Wire from horn, through button to elec source. Grump

If it's a factory horn it's not like one I've ever seen.
The factory ones look like big sea shells and mount up by the steering box... I have one somewhere over in my parents shed that came from my grandfather.

If I remember correctly, the "big sea shell" type of horn was the same as the older Delco Remy horns I saw on a lot of older Chevy's etc. from way back. I remember seeing them on a lot of the 6V GM products back in the late 1960's.

This is one of the original 6 volt horns that was found on :eBay: including the horn button and mounting bracket.

I was browsing on :eBay: one day and found 2 6 volt horns from a Pontiac .. they are now sitting in my Pole Barn awaiting a little cleaning, testing and mounting to Ellie and Granny. Course I need to make the bracket and I need to buy a pair of push button style horn buttons with the mounting brackets for the steering post.

And we even have a copy of how to make the bracket :!: :D

Thanks TJ !

As Jim mentioned, AC Delco was the source for IH Horns - as can be noted by the 313 above which transposes to 9000313 I would think based on the parts info in this thread Cub Horns on ebay. I should recheck the model number on my pair.

As Tim's pics indicate the model ending in 313 is 6v. Searching on :eBay: doesn't return any hits for AC Delco 6 volt, AC Delco 9000313, AC Delco 9000513 nor AC Delco 9000239 at the moment but they are on occasionally.

While I was out in the barn looking for the Hydraulic Reservoir for my Henderson.... I dug out the 6 volt horns I got a few years ago.

Nice 6 volt horns and they will do the job until I can find correct ones I guess... but apparently the ones I have are not exactly AC Delco .. :?

The one on the right is a model L

Figured out they were Delco-Remy models after I had seen this one on :eBay: - Vintage Delco Remy - Auto Lite Model HW Car/Truck Horns. I guess we just need to figure out if AC Delco and Delco-Remy are essentially the same part or if there is a big difference between the horns. Sure hope they are interchangeable.

Apparently my Cub had a horn on it too, at one time. Definitely not a factory job, though...

70s...

80s...
CB, ext. speaker and antenna added, too...

I see that now.. kinda makes sense. Still cannot find a part # though. Took the circuitry cover off and there were no part numbers to be seen inside either.

I do not understand the differences between Delco-Remy and AC Delco. Both owned by GM .. seems to be different divisions now, not sure what they were to each other in the 40's, 50's to 90's. I would think that AC Delco or Delco-Remy would be interchangeable....
