E3 Spark Plugs

The e3’s really made a difference in my motorcycle. Faster starts and seems like it has more power. You would think that someone would be able to improve on a 100+ year old design. I know what you mean about sponsership though. Only way to find out is to give something a try.
They've been improving the design, it's never stopped, contrary to the E3 website; copper, platinum, iridium, dual electrodes, triple electrodes, various heat ranges, etc.. When I started out in the business you cleaned and gaped plugs every year and replaced them every 2-3 years. Now they go 100k. Make no mistake, they've been improving all along. My top 2 are Denso and NGK, that's all I use in my vehicles. The Cub gets Autolite 3116's. For all I read about E3 plugs and all the people I talk to, it seems just about as many people hate them as love them. Until I see a much better ratio I'm not willing to experiment.

There have been a couple other changes that have contributed a lot to this.

One, unleaded gas means the plugs no longer accumulate a coating of lead. Back in the day, plugs came out of engines with a gray coating. That was lead.

Two, carburetors have been replaced with electronic fuel injection. Much better control over the fuel mixture reduces the carbon deposits left behind by incomplete combustion. Plugs still get black carbon deposits, but not nearly as quickly as before.

This is not intended to say the plugs themselves have not improved. They have.

In addition to the improvements Jim pointed out, the fuel injection systems are "full on" engine management systems that very closely manage fuel and ignition. Oil control has also been dramatically improved with better piston ring technology and closer tolerances. You seldom hear of anyone doing a tune up anymore.

Now for the funny part. I thought that $13.00 was a little steep for a spark plug. I believe I paid half that for my motorcycle. I received the package from Amazon, it came in a huge box. There were 16 plugs in the box! It was $13.00 for 4 plugs!
Time for a return to Amazon!

Do they do partial returns? I have 12 that I won’t be using!
