Distributor from 140 PN 353898r1 Same as is a cub?

I have a new to me 140. I tried to do a first for me start yesterday and had no spark. The new points had loose rivets on one of the contacts. Still no start after replacement. I kept at it and took the distributor out again today. I noticed a drag as I rotated the gear. I had the bottom end of a distributor for a cub nearby and noticed they had the same part number. I put it together using the cub bottom end and back in no joy. decided to replace the new condenser this time and got a spark and it fired. ok one problem ( really two or three little problems solved. )

Are the internals like the advance springs the same for the distributor on cub and the 140? Am I going to have to rebuild the distributor I took out and replace the one I put in it abacus ethe advance will not be correct?

I know the timing advance is 16 degrees in the cub and 14 on the 140

As tst said, here is a little more detail. There can't be much difference. The part number 353898R1 is for the bare distributor housing, which is used on many tractor models with different distributor advances. You can tell the distributors apart externally by a code that is stamped into the mounting flange of the housing. The Cub uses code D. The early 140 uses code AB and the later code T. The specs for each:
D: 16 degrees at 1,800 (or 2,000 depending on where you look)
AB: 22 degrees at 1,400
T: 14 degrees at 1,575.

Note that the late 140 spec is 1 degree after TDC at low idle, so the advance is picking up 15 degrees at 1,575. The same distributor is listed as 16 degrees at either 1,600 or 1,650 depending on where you look. So at 1,575 the advance may not be quite maxed out.

The T distributor uses the same 16 degree shaft as the code D. But it appears to have slightly weaker springs, as it hits the limit at a somewhat lower RPM.
 
I am coming up with a part number 373955R91 for the spring but my parts manaual is a TC-52B for 100, 130, 140 and I have found some issues this book with my later sn 49091 model 140. I did a few google searches and on messicks site and McDonald car and it is not sowing up.

If i Google "distributor advance spring kit farmall 140" Brilliam lists 353918R1 which does show up but they list is for all tractors with IHC Distributors as does mcdonaldcarb.com. Also there are a number a prices from $9 a set to $51 each so I really do not think I am looking at the same spring.

The IH site gives pn 358108R91 at $51 each!!!

Any suggestions for a PN and a source?
 
Part of the number confusion is that early listings gave the part number for a single spring while later ones were for a set of 2. Generally, the single springs have R1 numbers and the sets have R91. I believe 353918R1 is the original code A spring, 40 degree at 1,400. It appears that a pair of them is part 358106R91. I think that CaseIH has reduced the number of available springs and is doing a lot of substitutions. 373955R91 is the number I have for the late 140.

With all the part number changes and substitutions, I think that unless the old springs are damaged, bent, broken, or rusty; I would reuse the old springs and hope that no one in front of me had substituted springs that don't match the code on the housing flange.

"Part 373955R91 is no longer available. It has no substitutions and I was unable to find it form any of our obsolete part sources. "
