Owning a 1953 Cub tractor is a real joy. To keep it in good operating order is my goal. I have plows that go with it. When it is right, it starts as well as my 2014 F 150. Right now, I am attempting to set the points and ensure the plug wires are hooked up correctly. The 2-1 and 4-3 is helpful as well as the 1-2-3-4- . I would like to know I can do this myself with any assistance from my brother who is a mechanic. Thanks

Welcome.

The information on engine tune up and routine maintenance is available in the Operator's Manual.

Free down load, top of page, PDF manuals. Select the manual for your tractor year or closest to your tractor year.

There are how to videos available.

Since your brother is a mechanic, have him demonstrate. Usually that is the easiest, fastest way to learn a procedure.

Edit: The firing order, spark plug wire arrangement is 1-3-4-2.

The cylinder at the front-end of the tractor is #1.

1-3-4-2 is the normal firing order for pretty much all four cylinder engines with very few exceptions.

Excellent visual, Bill.
:Dito: Even with the distributor on the wrong side. :D .........Or is the engine on the wrong side of the distributor? :?

Thanks Barnyard, now I've got something to ponder on all day!
