Did Anyone Ever Make a 4ft Pull Behind Brush Hog?

I've got a Farmall A and I am not crazy about trying to run a 5 ft Brush Hog behind such an underpowered tractor.

I'm think 4ft brush hog would be much better.

Of course I have no 3 point hitch on this tractor so I need a pull behind brush hog.

Does anyone know of any vintage 4 foot pull behind brush hogs that could be had for a under $500?

Not sure I’ve ever seen a non-2 or 3 point, PTO driven, rear mower. You may want to consider looking for a used, self-powered mower.

This is the type of brush hog that I'm looking for.

Most of the ones in my area are 5 foot in size.

I really need a 4 foot to make this work. Any brand would be fine.

Wife's name, I need to purchase a bigger tractor.

I towed a 5 foot brush hog behind a B Farmall, only in 1st gear. Wouldn't pull the mower in second.

What are you planning to cut with it? An A in reasonable condition can handle a 5-foot mower in most situations.

I have not seen a tow behind 4' PTO-driven bush hog. I have seen and use these tow behind rough cut mowers with bush hog style blades that are 44" deck plus the wheels

Just 2 inch and under saplings and dry broom sedge. I fear my tractor is underpowered for it however. Are you running a 5 foot behind an A?

So a 4 footer does exist. Now to find one for sale in SW Missouri or North Arkanasas.

Are the 2-inch saplings a one time thing or an ongoing situation? One time, overlap your cut. Ongoing, get a bigger tractor.

Agreed. I have a 33hp tractor with a 5 foot mower and I wouldn't attempt a 2 inch sapling even one time.

Have you tried the 5' brush hog on the Super A?

I have run a 5' towing with BN and a Super A and it did not seem under powered to me.

Dont remember cutting much brush with it, because I am not crazy of driving over trees and brush with the tractor first.

I ended up converting the 5' tow behind brush hog to a 3 point so I could back up over brush. Used it like crazy until I got a 6 footer. Yea, backing up is a pain, but it saves the tractor from the abuse.

Some good sized trees fell victim to that 5 footer! :)

I have also cut lots of brush with a Cub with the Woods 42" brush hog type deck, that includes a good amount that would probably qualify for 2". Tons of milti flora rose!

And that Cub was tired and previous owner put the highly worn blades on backwards at some point! Probably after the last sharpining they did.

At one time, Agri Supply had a 4' towed bush hog.

I'll be the odd man out and say that unless you are mowing a lawn, 4' behind an A is a good choice. There were lots of Hardee fast hitch versions sold for 140s here and it was a good match. I'd want at minimum 35-40 HP to run a 5'.

I've got a 6' behind a 60hp diesel and sometimes it'll bog the tractor down depending on how thick it is. I'd love to have an 8' but I'd have to slow down so I just keep chugging with the 6'.

At one time (long ago, I think) Bush Hog made one as small as 42 inch, called SQUEALER 42. I've got one (3pt hitch) behind a YANMAR 1500.

Both of those are three point hitch. He's looking for a drawbar hitch.

Oops, my bad!

But a tow hitch could be fabricated, and the single center wheel removed and some sort of non swiveling wheels added, one on each side.

A company called Mono made a 48" towable.

The 5 footer that I have is a Mono.

The way they made them, they was easily converted either way.

Check out this pic of the brochure. You can see how they used the bars that is normally used for the three point top link as the tow hitch by adding a clevvis type hitch and a few bars to make it ridgid.
