Cub power unit

Stumbled on a cub power unit closeby, coupe questions.
1) Will the wngine work in my tractors?
2) I read not all power units had starters, is the casting the same that I could machine starter hole and mounting bolt holes?
3) What makes that wngine desired? Also read they run at a higher rpm. Is that correct?
4) what would one be worth less a few tins?

Make sure it is really a Cub engine. IH used a lot of Continental IY-69 engines for power units. People get confused.

The two pictures posted it has same right side coolant tube coming off block as atractor running through a almost bolster looking casting, oil filter housing nd drain same left side same manifold and valve cover. Think i will grab it if possible.
Did the higher rpm give more hp

A little higher rpm but not very much change in torque according to previous posts on the subject. JMHO Stan

Look at the serial number tag. It should have the rated RPM listed. I think it is 2500 rpm. The weights in the governor are lighter, similar to the numbered cubs. The HP should be close to or above what the number cub 184 is rated, 18 or so. But it does not make the cub into an A-140. As noted above, the torque curve is the same.

engine is the same, externals are different, never saw one without a starter hole, yes governor allows higher RPM
Your thinking the starter hole is there but maybe a block off plate same as aome tractors without a starter?

probably not , domed pistons were in late engines
Thank ya. I picked it up tonight got it cheap all i want is the block and its clean. Perfect for one of these two tractors i have busted up bad. Or at least i hope it works out in my favor

Coming to realize the flywheel may be the desired part off this unit. Its heavy and more spinning mass equals more inertia. Am i wrong on this? Had a guy wanting just the flywheel but i think im keeping it

Also, another plus, some of the power units had a counterweighted crankshaft. Be sure the connecting rods match the crankshaft if you are using the crankshaft in your other engine. Also check to see if there is enough clearance in the torque tube for the bigger flywheel. Don’t forget to add the ring gear for the starter if it works for you.

Looks like a few valve seats have some more than desired pitting but learning a lot from you all. I will keep all these engine parts together. I have a block i got for $20 that needs counterbored for seats that i plan tonpractice machining for hardened seats then i will attempt the power unit. My serial number tag dont show a max rpm onnthe power unit. Is it going to be higher?
