Have a 1947 cub with 6 volt positive ground system. Doesn't show charge. I've read posts and watched some video. I did the battery to generator test and got generator to run. I also gounded the field terminal on regulator and got reading on meter of 15 amps when running tractor open so my generator does work. Have a question, my generator has 3 brushes with a 4 post regulator not cut out relay as should be. Could this be my issue? thanks for any advice.

Hi,
Cubs before mid 1950 originally came with the cutout, or Relay, IH called it.
Some have been changed to a voltage regulator, some of them are on top of the generator, like the Relay was.
IH used the 3 brush gen with a voltage regulator for about 12 years, from mid 1950 - 1962, the Cub parts manual shows, but the gen for the voltage regulator was a different model number than the gen for a Relay.
Try doing the tests below.
The system may need the connections sanded and cleaned, so power will go through. It works good to disconnect and sand one at a time. Wipe off all filings with a clean rag. Disconnect the battery first, so you don't short the system.
Sometimes the points in the voltage regulator get burned. It may work if you file them, use a small file, wipe off all filings with a clean rag. Disconnect the battery ground cable first, so you don't short the system.

So after a month since i brought up charging problem and doing some testing with help of diagnosis guide which pointed to bad regulator, I installed a new voltage regulator and am now showing a charge on amp gauge of 10* amps and 8 volts with test meter. Thank you Glen for your help.
