Cub lowboy 185

My cub will start up great and run for around 3 or 4 minutes then dies. Good spark on all plugs yes with a inline tester. I've put a electrical fuel pump to make sure it wasn't the fuel system. The tank was taken off a few months ago and cleaned. Even put a new carb on her but still doing the same thing. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated

Do a fuel flow test at the carb. If that checks out good make sure the main jet is not partly plugged. IH or Zenith carb? Stan
I've had the carb apart and ran through the cleaner a few times that thing is clean enough to eat off of or drink out of. As for fuel flow and pressure. Before I put the electric fuel pump on it when it died I was ready with the socket to pull the plug on the bottom of the carb and it was full of fuel

Did you run a cleaner wire through the main jet? or at least spray carb cleaner through it? The jet itself is pretty small (about .032 on the IH carb) and something a carb cleaner bath is not too good at cleaning. Stan

Finally got a chance to work on her some today. The coil did get hot so I put another new one on her and left the resistor in the line. She still has spark with an online tester eyes are to bad to see a tiny spark.
Your 185 is probably running on 12v. If your replacement coil is 12v with an internal resistor you do not need an additional external resistor which will further reduce the coil output voltage to the points. Essentially what that does is "stack" the resistors. JMHO Stan
