cub governor spring installation

Hi Cubbers: I need to replace the governor spring. How is the best way to replace it without stretching the spring. The one presently has the end loops enlarged to clear the holding arms. Will this effect the tension amount? Thanks, Thomas down on the "Fantasy Farm" Peterson[strikethrough][/strikethrough]

Just a matter of moving it around until you can get it looped on both points. It took me a while to get mine on, once I did, I realized that it was actually easy. I would not use one that has been stretched or altered.

I place this at the top of my list since changing the ones on my cubs, it makes the system react much faster and helps things all around...
On my first cub I replaced this spring with the tractor together. I ground about 1/8 inch off of each end so it would slide in the holes better. It was still a hard job but it helped a lot.
I got the top one in and with a string tied in a loop I came up through the bolster hole from below and pulled down on the spring until it was in line with the bottom hole. Holding it there you can take a screwdriver and push it in through the bottom hole....
Bigdog says your coming to the Tug so bring it along and we'll play some there.

I need to replace one on Nameless III but never done it with the hood on. Yogie't tip on cutting the ends back is a good one, because even with 'easy' access (hood and fan off), it ain't easy to get either end on. I agree it's a good thing to replace and often overlooked.
