I have a 1971 Cub Cadet model 108 that jumps out of reverse gear.You can hold it in reverse and back up but when you take your hand off of the gearshift it will jump out of gear. Just wanting to know if someone has experienced this problem or can tell me what to look for... Thanks
 
If you are lucky it sounds like it may just be loose shifter fork (s), pull the shifter and see if they are tight. Hopefully not broke, bent or worn out.

It could also be that the gear shift lever is bent, or the retaining cup is bent or broken, not letting the shifter get all the way into gear. Regardless, popping the tranny shift cover off will likely answer your question.
 
Thanks for the quick response Guys! I believe ya'll have me headed in the right direction...If this cold weather will get out of here I'll take the cover off and see...I'll let you know what I find...Thanks again JRICK
 
I have been busy on other projects, etc.just now looking at the 108. I can see the spirol pin is broken off or missing that goes thru the clutch shaft at the sliding clutch plate near the teaser spring.I hope to get to it by removing the gas tank.Might have other problems,later with an update.
 
You shouldn't have to take the gas tank out, just remove one of the side panels holding it up and work from there. Also, there's a good chance you can get at it from underneath the tractor. There's a metal screen held on with 4 screws that if you remove you can get right to the clutch.
