Cub-22 Sickle mower questions

I just picked up this cub-22 sickle bar mower for my cub that I'm in the process of restoring, I would like to paint this up and make it look nice, while also making it functional (although I may not want to scratch up my nice paint.)
Ive done quite a bit of reading about it throughout these forums and seen that many people use the ace hardware international blue paint, so I will be going to pick some of that stuff up next week. What can be used to paint these, can I apply the paint with a foam brush since I have not purchased a paint sprayer yet, I am even leaning to brush paint all the cast iron on my cub and just spray the sheet metal, but I have not decided yet.

I just had a question about the little shaft that is on the flywheel seems to have a big groove into it, I still cannot figure out how that groove got there. Is this shaft replaceable or do I have to replace the whole thing? Also, where can I find the bearing that goes in the pitman arm? I think the bearing in there is good, but if I'm going to all the trouble of restoring it, I would like to replace the bearing.

that shaft they must have ran the old pitman arm bearing dry and destroyed to put a groove like that in it, they are no fun to change, they are swedged in place, did you get the PTO pulley for it ?? did not see it in the pics, they are costly

no I didn't, heard they are a few hundred bucks, I will be ready to bite the bullet when that time comes.

is the shaft pressed in? and do they sell replacements?

The pitman uses either a bearing or a bushing depending on the type. Here's the IH part number from the parts list for the bushing. The ball bearing type is made differently and the bearing IH number ST 313. The shaft that you referred to is called a wrist pin in the parts list IH part number 451 390 R11 is the shaft and nut assembly. that shaft will need all your swear words, heat, press and hammer to come out, they were cheap at the time to buy from IH, do not know what the current cost is

Bristle or foam brush on the non-sheetmetal parts and rattle can on the sheetmetal.
There should be a number on the pitman bearing.

Also has anyone ever replaced the ledger plates on the rock gaurds?

Several have posted that it is much easier to replace the entire rock guard rather than the ledger plates. I have ledger plates but have never replaced any.

He’s in Ohio. But I’m thinking like you, Stan. Someone close by probably has at least the flywheel assembly cheap or maybe even free. Would definitely beat replacing just the part.

My thoughts exactly, Thomas. Plus the part should be the same for all 4 of the cub IH sickle bar mowers and maybe others in the IH line but I haven't checked. Stan

This isn't a big thing, but the grass rod at the inner end of the cutter bar is bent wrong.
The rear end of it should be out over the bar more. I can't find a picture showing the shape of it.

I will look for one on Facebook to see what I can find, although I just purchased a 20 ton press from HF to press out my axles from my cub, so I can do it if I need to.

I took a picture of mine, from the pictures I found online it shouldn't have a bend in it at all right? If anyone has a close-up picture of theirs to add that would be great.
