Creeper drive problem

I have a 154 lo-boy. The creeper drive will no longer engage in high range. I read in my shop manual that in order to access the drive I have to split the tractor. I can do a lot of the work myself if relatively simple but....
2 questions;

- Do I have to get to the creeper drive to fix the problem - Any tricks????
- If I have to access and therefore split the tractor, am I getting in over my head?

You are probably asking your question in the wrong place to get a good answer because the creeper in a 154 Cub Lo-Boy and the creeper in a Cub Cadet garden tractor are two completely different animals other than the fact they both are a speed reduction unit, but after looking at the 154 parts manual and 154 service manual I would say the tractor has to be split unless there is some external linkage broken. You can start by removing the cover on the frame between the gear shift and the dash pedestal so you can see if there is something obviously wrong. As to the question if you are getting in over your head if you split the tractor, only you can answer that. It all depends on your mechinical skills and ability.
