Have you ever heard about radio waves? Well, if you have an antique gas tractor than you have a radio transmitter. When sparks are present there are radio waves[starters, spark plugs, magneto, etc.]. If you read old automobile spark plug boxes some of them talk about better interference with your radio. Don't believe me?, if you want to you can take a hand held radio and flip it onto the AM band. Then start the antique gas machine up and listen. You should here popping all over the radio band. You also shouldn't be able to here radio stations either. Back from about 1887 to about 1920 something called a spark gap transmitter used sparks to transmit Morse code. They used condensers too and the condenser discharge when the machine was off could kill a man. Spark gap transmitters where used on the titanic and played a key role on the recovery missions as well. They became obsolete in 1920 when American radio manufactures started using vacuum tubes.
