Having problems getting wife's 105 Cub Cadet running. Good compression, weak spark. Replaced the condenser with a new one.
Spark test, none. Checked coil for voltage and continuity. Primary voltage check, good. No secondary continuity. Purchased new coil.
Since I had the condensers in hand, thought I would check then. Results interesting. Apparently, the microfarads (μF) for battery ignitions does not have to be exact, only close.
Condensers. Tested three condensers for Kohler K series engines.
1. .199 microfarads (μF). 60+ years old.
2. .226 microfarads (μF). New out of the box.
3. .500 microfarads (μF). 60+ years old
