Complaint of the Week

Gas station, prepaid gas.

Stopped by local gas station for a fill. Lifted the gas discharge handle. Screen sign said insert credit card or see attendant. Punched a bunch of buttons, attendent arrives. Said I had to prepay inside. Inside the attendent asked how many gallons I wanted. Answer, a fill. Attendent, how many gallons? Answer, I don't know, truck holds about 30 gallons.

I told the attendent that I have cash, showed him the cash and a credit card. Attendent said we need to know how many gallons. OK, let me have $40- worth of gasoline. Attendent moves off to the side and pocket calculater figures up how many gallons $40- would purchase. Punches that in the cash register.

Pump shuts off 14 cents short of $40-. Walked back in and said you me a 14 cent refund. Got the 14 cent refund.

Then told the attendent that I wanted to purchase another $20- worth of gas. Same process, figure up the gallons $20- would purchase, punch in the gallons at the cash register. Back to filling the truck. Only took about another 6 gallons. Back inside to get my refund.

Told wife about my gaoline experience. She said that she puchases gasoline at the only station in town that doesn't have the prepay.

You’re lucky the attendant knew how to figure out how many gallons $40 would buy. Most wouldn’t.
Yup. We have been finding clerks at the local stores who don't know how to count coins and bills for an amount to enter in the cash register.

Similar situation happened to me last week, purchase was $5.98, so lacking the change I gave the clerk a $10 and $1 expecting to get a $5 bill and .02 in change. I had to explain why I did not want the change made from the $10. Don't think the clerk ever understood the transaction.

I'm really glad that I have taught my kids to calculate change. We play a game. If they can figure out the change faster than the clerk, then they get the coin change. At ages 11, 12,and 14 they can amaze most clerks - and have the answer correct. No calculators or phones allowed.
I do lose a fair amount of change, but it is worth it!

So here's a secret. Tell them you want 50 gallons of gas. Swipe the credit card. Only pump what will fit in the tank (no need to round to the nearest dollar). Drive away.
The actual amount spent ends up on the card, having nothing to do with the 50 gallons you asked for. No need to go back into the store.
The receipt at the pump (if printed) will show the same transaction number as printed inside the store.

This system didn't apparently work that way. The clerk informed me that I insert the credit card, punch in the dollar amount. What every amount in dollars you didn't use would appear as a credit on the credit card.

I like the other gas station in town that doesn't require prepay. Pump the gas, then either pay in cash inside or a credit card. Actually, I typically pay and would rather pay in cash.

I think the gas stations are doing this to help prevent drive offs. Most gas stations have video cameras on the pumps and instore area. Guessing, most of the time it's not worth the gas station's time and effort to appear in court for a $10- or $20- drive off.

stations up here are telling customers to enter the store and remove the mask so the camera can get the faces. Then told to put the mask back on. There have been too many robberies

I guess when on my motorcycle. I don’t use a credit card I pre pay.

With my truck with twin tanks it’s a hassle I try to get close to the pump to run up one bill. 20 gallons in one tank, 25 gallons in the other. On my 185 cc street leagal bike I could ride all day on one tank is I cruised slow. When gas was expensive I loved that bike. I rode 30 miles to work one way.

Business automated answering machines and the most recent big foul up.

About 5 weeks ago, medical visit. Ask the doctor to renew the prescription at the facility that handles Tricare prescriptions.

Waited a couple weeks, no prescription in the mail.

Internet to email the facility that handles the perscription. Email not working at this time. Tried email next couple of days - still not working.

Telephone to the answering machine at the facility. Pressed the correct cell phone number to get someone on line - You are number 6 million in line, we will be with you momentarly. 5 or 6 tries, person on line, no prescription recieved.

Called the doctors office, another answering machine but the operator came on line. Prescription sent.

Back to the facility, finally got a person on the phone. No prescritpion recieved. Back to the doctor's office, prescription sent.

Another round of phone call attempts to the prescription facility. Called the doctor's office, please leave a recorded message. I must have said something really bad before I hung up. About 4 hours later the doctor's office called to find out the problem and why I was upset.

Sent wife to local clinic, same business as the doctor, with the old prescription from the packaging.

Half hour later wife returned. Wife said that the doctor's office computer had sent the prescription to the wrong pharmacy. Clinic office staff made the necessary corrections.

I’ve had similar problems with doctor’s office/Tricare/Express Scripts. Each and every time it has been the doctor’s office administrative personnel at fault. Incompetent.
