Coil no power

Well yall got a new problem. Went to fire my girl up but no luck. Checked all tje connections for fire and got good fire all the way to the +side of the coil and nothing after even while turning over the engine. Put a new coil on her and still the same. Any ideas would be appreciated thank yall

Assuming this is your 185 Loboy, is it pos or neg ground? Does the points have a spark when they open and close with the ignition switch in the on position? With the switch on, you will not have any output from the coil if the points do not arc as they open and close. If you have a spark at the points as described then it's possible that the high voltage side of the coil is bad. JMHO Stan
EDIT: Do you mean that you have power from the battery to the input side of the coil and no power out to the distributor/points? Disconnect the wire at the distributor from the coil to the side terminal of the dist and check for power. If you then have power at the disconnected wire the distributor is shorting out, maybe at the insulating block assembly or internally.

Neg ground system on her yavshes a 185. I didn't think the points would have spark with no power going out of the coil to the distributor. Yes got good power going into the input side of the coil and nothing coming our to the distributor. Ok ill check that wire in the morning and get back qith yall thank ya

Ok Stan pulled the wire from. Between the coil and distributor made a new one. The old one was getting power through it but was old lookin so I figured since I pulled it I made a new one. I pulled the insulated off the distributor and checked it over real good.. no cracks in it inside or outside. When I put my probe in the end of the qire coming out of the coil and touch the bolt going into the distributor it arcs and the power showing on my probe shows nothing till I pull it away. Everything in the distributor looks good.

So when you reconnected the new wire from the coil output to the dist input and turn the engine with the switch on did you get a spark at the points as they open and close? If points spark yes, then the tower contact of the coil should have a spark when the wire from the center of the dist cap is held about 3/16 inch from a bare clean place on the block when you check for spark. If no spark at the points the circuit is going to ground somewhere inside the distributor, i.e. condenser, or insulator block connection OR the high voltage winding of the coil (tower output) is defective (open). BTDT. very anoying. Stay with it, you'll figure it out. Mine took me about 3 or 4 hours continuously working on it. :D Stan

If the points are physically opening and you find no other likely short circuit, in the distributor, nothing touching the housing, etc., I’d be very suspicious of the condenser. There seems to have been a few cases of shorted condensers, lately.

Gary probably figured it out. I'm betting the insulator that goes through the distributor housing is probably broken, cracked, or is allowing a short.

The condenser wire goes on top, next to the screw head. NOT UNDER THE INSULATOR next to the distributor housing.

Multimeter, you can easily check the condenser connection for a short and the condenser function and short.

I found insulators oily dirty and shorting out on a LOT of motors. These gotta be kept clean and dry. Even if they are not cracked they can short out with age and saturated with oil and dirt. Good thing to check anyway to at least eliminate or confirm its condition.
