cleaning main carburator jet

I found when I needed to clean the main carburator jet and could not find the right size wire, I could use my cutting torch tip cleaning tool. It has an assortment of wires and you can find just the right size for this use. One will fit perfectly. Does anyone see a problem with this?

Torch tip cleaners are usually pretty stiff and you can gouge and de-form the soft brass jet. Most of us use a short piece of copper telephone wire. It is about perfect in size and will not damage the jet.

With rare exceptions, tip cleaners have serrations which can gouge out the jet opening. Those for the Dillon/Henrob and successor company torch are smooth. Smooth is good. Rarely will any debris in the jet be difficult to dislodge from the metering hole. Use smooth only.

In a pinch, you can use a wire from a wire brush, or wire wheel. Hard steel, but smooth, and correct diameter. I use telephone wire, myself, and keep some, in my "carb. tool box. Ed

I usually have tag wire nearby. Nobody uses tag wire any more so may not be a useful suggestion unless you find a tag on some NOS parts.

My tip cleaner wires are rounded on the end and the serrations starts back far enough you wouldn't be able to contact the serration anyway. The one wire fits the hole perfectly. Thanks for your suggestions.
