501 Club
what was a circle cub, and from the few things i have read, they were built during 1947 i think. how many circle cubs were built? and how hard is it to try find one / THANKS, Jim :{_}:

They were the first 4000 or so Cubs off the assembly line. Considering they were built 60+ years ago, they are actually not that rare.

They were called circle Cubs because they bore the logo that's shown in my avatar on the front hood supports. IH used the circle Cub logo only for a sort time in 1947, then it just disappeared :big say what:

I think its the best insignia they used, simple and clean :D

Jgtools, I have looked for them myself. The sticker is the only thing different on them and nothing else. If I am not mistaken, IH only used the decal for the first couple of months of production.

The hood decal was "McCormick Deering Farmall" with the Circle Cub decal on the dogleg. They were the first cubs off the production line. And as mentioned, there were approximately 3500 up to maybe 4000 of them off the line before the decal change to add Cub to the hood banner decal and eliminate the circle emblem.

thanks guys. Ill have to keep a eye open for one of those circle's , would be nice to have a 47' thanks for all the help, Jim

Jim, there are Circle Cubs out there that no longer have the decals on them. You may look at one and not even know it if you don't check the serial number.

My buddy was eyeing one up in Tennessee. Turned out to be questionable but he bought it anyway. The price was right.....

Sometimes you need just plain blind luck. I bought my first cub for my wife because she wanted one. I knew it was an early cub but didn't know anything about circle cubs. Since then, I joined this site a couple years ago and found out what I bought was a circle cub. Talk about one lucky lady!!! The serial number is #20XX. Guess I should play the lottery. Keep your eyes peeled. Never know what you'll find. Ours didn't have the circle decal. Old repaint. Good luck.

Lucky Lady?? Sounds as if you are the lucky one--A wife who loves Cubs :{_}:

I bought #4028 a little over a year ago. When I asked the experts on this forum whether it was a "Circle" Cub, I was told to go ahead and put the circle decal on it if I want, as it probably took a while for the change to make it to the factory floor. I haven't painted it yet, but I'll probably put the circle on it, as I agree that it was one of IH's better-looking logos.

IH had ordered the circle decals to stop on or about the day that serial # 3081 was produced. That doesn't mean they actually stopped then. It is belived by many that production continued until all decals were used.

Here is a Cub Trent and I saw at Steve B's CI CubFest in September.

Looking at it you can pretty much tell it is an original. The serial # is 35XX so we know they probably went on for awhile.

When checking an early 47 Cub always look closely at the dogleg for any evidence of a missing decal. Sometimes with a quick repaint the outline remains even if the decal is bone.

Unfortunately, I still have a limit on what I can buy and spend in relation to cubs and cadets. Still I consider myself quite lucky in many ways!!
