Cherry Plums

Harvesting, picking up fallen cherry plums from the ground. 3 years ago was the previous harvest.

Have about 2 gallons in the freezer so far. Hoping for another 3 or 4 gallons.

After harvest season will boil down the plums, saving the juice and pulp for daughter.

Daughter makes jams and jelly which she gives away.

We used to have the wild plums here til neighbors farm chemicals killed the trees.
Opinion. Neighbor probably did everyone a favor. The native wild plums have significant tire puncturing thorns.

Wildlife love plums and will spread the seeds all over the place. We had wild plum thickets in field corners where we couldn't mow or cultivate.

Bit over 3 gallons of cherry plum pulp in the freezer. That's a whole lot of jelly and jam.

Wife told me no more. Too big of a kitchen mess cooking down the plums and turning into pulp.

cherry plums are what we call "wild" plums----small fruit--NO thorns ever on them--trees get bout 20 feet tall and were always loaded with tart fruit---goats loved them.
