Checking the oil

In the manual it refers to a dipstick on the 300, BUT I can't find one all i have are upper and lower test cocks. Is there one hid somewhere I can't see or did the test cocks replace it?
 
I’m not familiar with a 300 but if I had to guess it would be the other way around, the dipstick replacing the test cocks.
 
Well what I did for a cheap and easy fix and use this idea at your own risk was I just used a zip tie. You can find really long zip ties like 2 feet long. And if you're really nervous about it zip tie it to a screwdriver or something and dip it down in there. That way you won't lose the thing. But like I said it's just a cheap and easy fix to help you on your way
 
I think the answer is a tractor has either/or. I just use the pet cocks on the Super C and they work fine....until it is really cold and then it can be a long wait for the molasses... or run it for 15 minutes and then check.
 
IH didn't add a dipstick to tractors until the 350. Older ones might have it if the owner added it, or the engine was replaced with one out of a combine.

One exception to this would be the Cub. I've had a Cub for a few years (a '51) and was used to checking the oil with it's dipstick, so when I got my '51 H, i looked and looked for a dipstick. Finally resorted to checking the manual ( :lol: ) and lo and behold, no dipstick!
