Changed username

cjet69

501 Club
Not that it really matters but I changed my username from 2cubs to cjet69 that I use on other sites.

I personally do not use the same user name.

Makes it harder for someone to track you.

Someone could do a search for your username and find the other places you frequent!

But hey, thats just me! ;)

I think that’s good advice.

I think that’s good advice. I don’t have any social media accounts but have used the same username for things like Menards and online purchases and I get junk mail referencing the username. I’ve used that name a lot so it’s out there and linked to an email account. So far it’s only created junk mail that I never open but I plan to get more creative with my usernames in the future. Just gotta write it down and put it somewhere I can find it for infrequently used sites. I repeatedly get one referencing my frequently used username about someone attempting to access my Facebook account, even though I’ve never had one. I never had an issue but recently switched to a new more secure email account.

Not exactly the same thing but along the same lines I heard an online “security expert” recommend that when you setup online access, particularly for a financial account, that you answer security questions such as your mother’s maiden name, with false information. Obviously you need to remember the phony answers. I used fake security information for my wife’s 401K when we set it up. Eventually we needed to setup a new password and my wife couldn’t answer the security questions and chuckle when I remember her looking like a fool who didn’t know her mother’s maiden name. Eventually I found the paper where I wrote them down.

I've noticed recently that several new members have used their email addresses as their username. Very risky thing to do.

In fact, Forum rule 4a states; "The posting of personal, real-life information such as home addresses, email addresses, schedules and home phone numbers is strongly discouraged."

My wife bought a password book, that we keep handy and take along when we travel. It keeps track of user names and passwords, very handy! She thinks she ordered it from Collections Inc.

I keep a list of all usernames, passwords and secret questions. It doesn't reside on my computer, however. It's on a memory stick kept in my desk drawer. The file has an un-obvious name.
