Carburetor Size For K181

Just got the carbutetor cleaned up for the CCO. Looked in the choke side and saw the number 22. Is this the right size carb for the K181. I'm thinking a #20.

If that is what was on the engine, try it. There are a number of different part numbers for the Carter N/Kohler carbs used on both The K-161 and K-181 engines, and my copy of the Master Parts Manual is old enough that most of the part numbers don't cross to the newer numbers. I can tell you that the Cub Cadet TC-113 parts catalog (dated 6-91) list KH-41-853-08 for the carb assembly on a K-181 replacement engine for an Original, and KH-41-853-11 for the carb assembly on a K-161 for an Original, for both the Carter No. 3409S and Carter No. 3738S. The #20 is what is in the venturi of the K-161 parts carbs that I have. Your K-181 probably has a Kohler carb on it rather than a Carter. Kohler owns the rights to the Carter model N, and the Kohler carbs are copy's of the Carters, but are not marked as Carters.

Hey, how's it goin' Froghunter????

From what I've been told from a lot of people, the #20 carburetor was installed mainly on the 7hp K161S Kohler engine, just like the one my 61 cub is using. The throat number that my carburetor has is #20 and the part number that's placed on the right side mounting ear is 3334S. And it also says Carter Model N on the side of the carburetor body. By the way Froghunter, make sure your carburetor does'nt have a worn out throttle shaft. To check and see if it does, try to wiggle it side to side. If it does move side to side, there's a good chance that it's taking in cold air between the throttle shaft and the carburetor body and may give you problems when it comes time to adjust the needles or have poor idle both high and low. To fix this problem, you may need to install a throttle shaft bushing to seal it up. This is just a friendly reminder and a suggestion. Take Care Froghunter.
