Carburetor Rebuild

Is there a consensus on who sells the best carburetor (not Zenith) rebuild kit? Wary of what's available on eBay. Cub is becoming more difficult to start. Definitely a fuel problem because a spray of starter fluid makes all the difference. Looks to be the original carb. Likely a basic rebuild kit would do, though I'm not sure.

Mcdonald Carburetor and Ignition sells individual parts or kit. A great source of information as well. Unless someone has molested it pretty badly likely all you need is a gasket and a thorough cleaning.

I remember that I was having to use a hit of starter fluid and when I took the carburetor off the choke lever had came loose. Worth a look.

Hi,
The screw in the choke arm on the IH carburetor can come loose, and then the arm turns on the shaft, and doesn't close the choke.
Look and see if the choke rod is closing the choke.

Below is a pic from TM Tractor showing the engine side of the IH carb.
Sometimes the gap between the sides of the arm is closed and the screw won't tighten the arm on the shaft. Then you need to remove the arm, and increase the gap between the sides of the arm.
A hacksaw blade probably works, to remove a little material. :)

Thank you all so very much. Very grateful for all the knowledge I am given whenever I post a question. I believe I'm not using the tractor often enough. Yesterday I used it for two hours clearing brush from a small field that will be planted later in the spring. This morning it started right up and ran very smoothly. There are places in this country where one can buy ethanol free fuel. Unfortunately this is not one of them. Anyway, a carb cleaning wouldn't hurt.

Good to hear it’s starting better. I highly recommend the helps in the How To Forum by Lurker Carl. Found here: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=139

Not worth a rebuild, new carbs on ebay are $25. i tried to rebuild but the new carb works way better. Looks like the old one too.

I agree. Send me your old one. I'll pay the shipping.

Agreed, twice.
With a 70+ year old gas tank I found that an inline fuel filter is worth every bit of the relatively low cost.

As long as it's made for a gravity feed system and not for use with a fuel pump. If the tank is clean and there are screens in the sediment bowl and carb inlet, you shouldn't need one though.
