Hey y'all so I'm having some carb issues. Essentially I can run the cub for about 2 minutes after letting the fuel go to the carb for 2 minutes and then it dies. I've got fuel free flowing to the carb, but when I open the plug in the front bottom very little or nothing comes out unless the gas has been turned on for a while. What would cause this? I removed the screen at the inlet because I have an inline fuel filter.
 
Uploading a video to post for yall to see. I am not sure what the fuel filter was made for I already threw away the package, but its got a good constant flow and ive never even seen the bowl on it loose fuel.
 
Disconnect fuel line from carb. Let fuel drain through the filter into a container for 3 or 4 minutes. Quart of fuel, give or take, then the problem is in the carb.

Obtain a gravity flow fuel filter, for 1/4" hose.
 
It did 32 ounces in less than 2 minutes. If i was to buy a new carb what should i buy? This ones been JB welded and had other issues.
 
My original Cub carbs had so many hammer marks on them and stripped fuel inlets, Last year I broke down and bought a Kipa carb off Amazon and installed it on my 1952 Cub slight tweak on the idle mixture and it's been great, I bought another one for my 68 Lo-Boy and am planning on replacing the Bendix / Zenith carb soon I think the composite float is getting heavy with the new fuel. I would like to rebuild the IH carbs I have at Cecil's Cubfest but I've got to say these Kipa's work great. TJ
 
Thank you gentlemen these are just the kind of answers I was looking for. I ran the cub for about an hour tonight I ended up just opening the float all of the way and she stayed running but of course when off the carb flooded! Starting to sound a whole lot better after running it for awhile!
 
Don, does the Chinese carb you mentioned have the “hole” drilled as it should be and is the gas line inlet beveled for a compression sleeve?

The only way to know the answer to the first question is to open it up and check. Some do, some don’t. The fuel inlet is not beveled, but that doesn’t seem to have presented a problem to those that have used them.

I thought maybe this particular carb had all the desired elements like brass float, hole drilled and beveled inlet.
 
Based upon the experience of others, I would assume that the hole is not drilled. Although they are labeled with various names, I think it's also safe to assume they are all built in the same sweatshop factory.
 
Need a carb expert to look at Krusty's orginal carb.......I think its stripped out.......I'll bring it to the Bash!!!!!!

I removed the sediment bowl and installed a ball valve on the bottom of the fuel tank. The ball valve is positive shut off of fuel flow.

I also use a gravity fed fuel filter. It's the same fuel filter used on lawn mowers.

I purchased this carb and took it apart. It does have the hole drilled and has a brass float. Float adjustment was close but not perfect. Haven't installed it yet but seems to be very good quality for the price.
