Carb / fuel question

2 parter :

1. Sometimes my SC will start right up then immediately cut off. When I check the fuel filter there will be no gas in it. I have to pull the inlet fuel line off, get gas to running out then plug back into the fuel filter. Once I do this the fuel filter will fill and the tractor cranks immediately.

2. There is a steady drip of fuel from the sediment bowl outlet fitting and to the inlet line into hue carb. Both are a small piece of copper out of a brass fitting with standard rubber fuel line connecting in between

1. Have you checked the fuel tank cap vent for an obstruction?
2. Have you tried tightening the fuel line fittings?

I should’ve thought through the vented gas cap, I have not checked that.
The pieces of copper fuel line seem to spin or is loose in the fittings, the fittings are tight.

Wouldn’t taking the fuel cap off solve the venting issue? Because it doesn’t
Can I get the inlet to the carb/outlet from the tank with a barb end?

Yes, it would. Without knowing exactly what your fuel line setup looks like, I'd suggest replacing all the line components. Also, I wouldn't use copper line, as it can work harden over time and become brittle and crack. That may be contributing to your current problem. I'd use a 5/16 or 1/4 steel brake line as a replacement. You will have to make some cuts and bends to get it to fit.

I've noticed on my tractor that occasionally the inlet to the fuel shut off will get clogged with sediment from the fuel tank, not letting fuel flow into the glass bowl. I gingerly blow air back through the fuel line into the tank to clear it.

I understand your question now, I don’t know. I didn’t know there was a difference. I will replace it anyhow, it’s time.

I learned the hard way there’s a difference and it was frustrating for me.
