Tractor had oil pressure. I found these near the broken gear pieces. Clearly not a part of the gear, but no idea where they came from.Looks like it isn't getting any oil.
My first thought exactly looking at the material. I have to decide how much effort to put in this thing. There's other big issues. Had to cut a lot of the what little was left of the radiator bolt heads just to get it outThose could be pieces of a connecting rod bearing.
Any tips for extracting those cut off bolts? ThanksI've seen and dealt with worse. Looks like antifreeze residue in the bolster so that might be a good sign. Wrenching time is a lot more satisfying. than a lot of other things. JMHO Stan
First, a large quantity of patience! A small set of left hand drill bits will help, sometimes they will back out if you soak them with KROIL/PB Blaster, etc. Try to center punch each one and after tapping moderately with a hammer start with a small diameter bit like 1/8 and step up the size until you reach the threads in the bolster. If you still have any remains of the bolt left, you can remove the remaining debris with a correct size tap. Just don't force the tap and break it off in the hole or you will be back to the starting point. Some medium heat will help break the rust bond also. Another approach is to weld a flat washer to the stub that remains to be removed, then weld a nut to the washer. Heat from the welding will aid in breaking the rust bond also and you can probably remove it with a wrench or vice grips on the nut. Oh yeah, don't forget the patience!!!
