Bench testing hydraulic pump?

Does anyone develop a technique to bench test a hydraulic pump after a rebuild?

The last time I did one, while holding the pump so the inlet/outlet holes were facing up, I simply poured some HyTran into the inlet hole of the pump, then tuned the geared shaft to see if it pushed the oil out the other tube hole. Pretty low tech, but it seemed to work as a rough verification.
