First, if better phitos needed, please let me know. Now, before I split my 57 Cub, does anyone see glaring issues of a 1000011012.jpg major mess- up. Thanks all for any advice.
 
I can see the trailer jack pretty good and it looks like it's probably adequate but I can't see what you've got going on with the other lumber. Is that cribbing under the oil pan?

I'm no carpenter, but I would worry about the weight causing those bolts to split those 1x6's right down the grain line.

Is done, thought I was going to loose the front but good LORD helped out!

Your support of the front is very, very sketchy. One bump and it will be on the floor. I would add timber cribbing to replace that jack on wheels.

It's too late now for the party, but for future reference/use I would drill across the 2x6's between the 2 bolts at the top and the jack attachment at the bottom and reinforce the boards with 3/8 x 6 bolts and washers/nuts to reduce the chance of splitting. The pine 2 x 6 is somewhat soft. Oak or other hardwood would be better. And chock the wheels fore and aft to prevent unintended movement. JMHO Stan

While it is split, and you can see the end of the starter easily, I would try to check the bushing there for wear, move the shaft up and down and see if it has any play, there should be no play. If there is play it needs new bushings.
You could work light engine oil into the bushing also.
Review the info about the clutch that I sent you. :)

Worked out fine . The wood/boat jack looked a little sketchy till I noticed one on both sides . Smart . Cribbing on the front is a better plan . I use a motor lift and sling with a 2x4 under the oilpan ( often cribbing under that , too ) . Just a another way . I do remember vividly my first split ( shaking my head slowly ) ..................Coppersmythe.............................................PS: The Loboy worked on at Buddies cubfest was recently split , motor is on the stand , and will probably end up at Cubfriends' cornhusker fest for more work. I'm going to check something tomorrow and report back;) Can't make the BASH , birthday obligations, MINE:cool: !!

Set the parking brake or chock both wheels….you might need to rock the front a bit to separate the tractor. It can get hung up on the guide pins on the transmission housing. For safety I would probably throw and old tire under the transmission housing JUST IN CASE something goes crazy with your home made stand.

You gotta use what you got. The only thing I would have done is double up on the 2x6's to make 4x6's...those trailer jack casters are so crappy when they roll...they catch on anything not smooth.
 
I split my loboy a while back , and started the teardown today. While doing that , I was curious about the wood/trailerjack combo . So, i decided to bring a scale down to the shop to check it out . The weight on the front of the bell housing was 129 lbs. Subtract the jack/steel mount combo ( 36 lbs ) and you have a total of 93 lbs . Divide by 2 , each jack above has about 46.5 lbs of weight on it . I was surprised , thought it would be more , coppersmythe........................ PS: I prefer the heavier double wheel jack, rolls like a dream 20260527_105408.jpg

Glad it worked. You did get a bit lucky. Help your luck now by putting chocks of some kind on both sides of both front wheels. The front is what gets away from you real fast. One wheel goes one way and the other wheel goes the other and off the jack it goes faster than you can imagine.
