Auxiliary Hydraulic Reservoir

So I'm thinking about adding an auxiliary hydraulic circuit to my sons cub to run a hydraulic ram on a dump wagon. I did a search and all I could find for auxiliary reservoirs were old post where the pictures aren't showing up.

I'm also wondering if when adding a reservoir if it has to be above the touch control unit or below.

My thinking is as long as it's full and keeping the touch control unit topped off I should be ok. Is this correct.

Thanks.

If you are using a two way hydraulic cylinder, you should be good to go with out an additional reservoir. One way cylinder, you will need an additional reservoir.

There is a bit of fluid volume difference between raising and lowering the two way cylinder. In most cases, not enough difference to significantly reduce the fluid level in the touch control.

If you have empty hoses and cylinders, you will have to monitor and fill the touch control until they are full.

On my single action cylinder loader, I mounted the aux tank so the bottom fitting emptied into the fill hole at a slightly higher angle ( not much) than the fill hole...I also had to use a vent plug in the fill hole of the Aux tank...Took a bit of hydraulic fluid run over to find the correct level the TC liked, kinda like the radiator...  ....I add the hydraulic fluid with the cylinders retracted...A sight gauge to see where the fluid is happy would be handy...Dave :tractor:

Above the touch control is ideal, but below works too if you can get the system sealed, set up the siphon, and the vent is above the level of the oil in the TC. The 1000 loader's auxiliary reservoir is mostly below the TC, but the vent is at gas tank level.
