76 Years Old

Soaking wet with sweat I sat down in a medical waiting room, wanting to talk to the staff about my excess apples.

Elderly lady started the conversation saying that it was pleasant day. Told the lady that I was a bit chilly in the air conditioning.

Lady ask why. I replied that wife and I just came in from the acreage shop where we were preparing to install a translucent panel. With the heat index around 100, both doors open, fans on, working inside, it was very hot and humid.

Lady ask, "How old are you?". I said "76". Lady then said, "Aren't you to old for that kind of work?".

You're as old as ya feel. Both my grandfathers were active well into their 80's. Stay active. Keep movin'.

Just don't overdo it! That's the hard part...

After the conversation in the medical office I went home, scraped and painted on the front porch, and picked apples.

Today, wimped out early. Heat index near 100 degrees. Well above 100 degrees working about 15/20 feet above the shop floor. Floor area wasn't uncomfortable to take a break and wipe off the sweat.

Cooling off a bit at home picked and delivered another 5 gallons of apples for the medical office. Bit later this afternoon/evening neighbor lady will be here to pick another 10 gallons of apples.

Neighbor lady has taken 30 gallons of apples. Another 10 gallons = 40 gallons. That's about 4 1/2 bushels, alot of apple sauce and apple crisps.

Really sucks being hyperactive, just can't sit down and take long break.

Begining to think I'm to old for any kind of work.

Translucent panel installed in upper east peak of shop this morning. This afternoon son and I broke up, sledge hammer, 1/2 cubic yard of concrete sidewalk. Then loaded the concrete in the trailer, smoothed up the new sidewalk location, hauled the concrete to ditch on acreage, and unloaded.

Arms, shoulders, and back, sore.

Son has been helping with the work. Son called work and said he was ill. Work sent him in for a cornavirus test. Told him to self quarantine. 3 days later the test came back negative. He is still quarantined. Has to take and record his temperature for 10 days. On day 10 he has to make a video of him taking his temperature.
