1A Tiller mounting plate

As I had mentioned last week I purchased a 1A tiller, but it was missing the gearbox & mounting plate. I have discovered these are difficult to find. I have the ability to make my own plate; but I will need your help getting the dimensions; height, width, depth and hole lay out. As always, any help will be appreciated.

I'll keep an eye out for a mounting plate for you. In the meantime, below is a photo of my old 149 with the tiller drive. You should be able to get close enough on the dimensions from this photo. You already have the most important part, the width of the mounting arms on the tiller.

If I were making one, I'd make the tongue for the hitch integral to that plate instead of bolting the factory hitch back on. If I remember correctly, that is the one piece that you have to take on and off to put the tiller on and off. The hitch just stuck out about an inch too far, and would hit the tiller, but a small tab sticking out an inch, just enough to get a pin through, would have worked and would not have been in the way.

Thank you Bill, this will be very helpful. Another question I have; are the internal gears of the snow thrower gearbox the same as the tiller?

Yes, the gears inside the boxes are the same. There may be a difference in the pulley sizes, and I had the two next to each other (literally, see the pic below) but never looked at it that closely at the time.

As you can see, these photos are from 2002 and that is when I sold the package. Kind of miss it all now, but it was time to move on.

Thanks again Bill, I purchased on Ebay the two pulleys that will mount onto the gearbox; now I need to make the mounting plate. As for moving on, I tend to hold onto everything! :D

Yea, there's lots that I've wished I held on to. Unfortunately, growing up with a father who sells this equipment, there was always another tractor just waiting, so we never really held on to anything. He'd say,"It's just a tractor. I've got a whole shop full of them." On the positive side, I've had LOTS of Cubs and Cub Cadets to play with over the years, so I can't complain.

I've got a 105 here in my shop now that I just moved in today. It's going to get a complete overhaul. Someone already put a brand new Kohler 14-hp engine in it, but they butchered the frame doing it. So I've got another frame that I'm going to modify the correct way and then build up the new tractor. It's going to be a Cub Cadet 145, something that never existed from the factory.

Good luck with the mounting plate. It should not be too difficult to figure out.
