1964 International Cub Lo Boy Guidance For First Start/ Restoration

Hi,

I've inherited an old tractor, and would like to get it started again. It is quite rusty, so I am unsure where to start. For one, I have no idea where the key is, and when I tried to pull the choke it just separated from the cable. Good learning moment. The radiator and fuel tank look to be empty and clean, but there is no fuel strainer bowl so I think I need to replace that before I put any fuel in.

Before even putting fuel in, my plan is to replace all fluids and gunk that may be in the engine, and to put some fogging oil in the cylinders. Anything else you recommend? I think I would like to restore this tractor, but getting it started is definitely the first milestone for me. Otherwise, am I in the correct thread? I am not sure if my tractor is a 154, 184 or 185 so I just want to make sure that I am in the right place.

Any guidance or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Huck

If it looks like this picture and indeed it is a 1968 it is an offset IH Cub LoBoy made from 1955-1968. SN range is 501-26007. Casting code letter for the year is A-O on the major cast iron casting parts. Good Luck and welcome the the forum. The number series LoBoy tractors 154/185/184 were not offset and were yellow/white and lastly the 184 was red/white. Click on the HOME Button at the top left corner of this page then information then serial number reference to find details. JMHO Stan

Thanks Stan and Don, it is yellow and white and has the offset similar to the cub 1956 picture that Stan provided. Casting code letter is J with SN before 26007, so pretty confident that it is a 1964. Since it is not a 154/185/184 I suppose the correct place to post would be in the Farmall Cub forum. Thanks for the help.

My info says "late 1963 introduced squared hood and grill along with yellow and white paint, Farmall Cub SN22501 and LoBoy Cub SN 17201." For a short time during the changeover there were a few hundred that were painted red and white. Enjoy your ride! Stan
