1960 Farmall 140 Backhoe Attachment

Very nice indeed!
Until you mentioned it I didn’t know this was an option or it even existed so I had to look that one up. If I understand it right it runs off the tractors pto and has its own hydraulic tank and system.
Looks like it would connect to what I have on my SA now . Ain’t cheap though is it? ;)
Still at under $4k it’s still cheaper than buying a full backhoe.
Hey Dale, I’ll bet this kinda makes you wish you hung onto that SA you had ! ;)

 YOU are such an enabler!! Just glad you don't live nearby!!
Oh I’d be picking your brain and making use of your expertise on mags and such ;)

Paid $6000 for a Woodmax WM-8600 tractor mounted backhoe. $6000- included additional parts; bucket, grapple, and ripper. Sounds expensive but it's much cheaper than having to rent one for a day everytime you need to use one.

Used the backhoe to dig out a spring fed cattle water supply and a fence line. Planning on using the backhoe to dig holes for planting fruit and nut trees and cleaning a stream ditch to replace a low water crossing.

Handy machine to own and have on hand.

Dale who's the enabler now?
Eugene you just nudged me that much closer ! I've been wanting a backhoe for a long time but couldn't justify having another huge machine but with it being an attachment for a tractor I already have ... Uh Oh...
:surrender:
Lets just say the seed has been planted

We mount the backhoe on a WD Allis Chalmers. The WD's hydraulics, one way, high pressure, low volume., designed for farm implements. We pick up and carry the backhoe, 1150 lbs. on the 3-point. We have added about 500 lbs of weight to the tractor front. Total tractor weight 4000 lbs. That places around 2500 lbs ahead of the rear axle.

Only problem we have found is that the tractor gets light on the front end when going up a rise. WD has plenty of power on the PTO to handle the backhoe.

Only thing I can suggest is plan on the tractor being quite a bit heavier than the backhoe manufacturer suggests.

4 inches of rain so far this month. 1 1/2" last night.

Yesterday cleaned out one of the low water crossing's culvert with a shovel and garden hoe. Well sort of. There is a huge rock covering part of the culvert's up stream opening. Got the water flowing around the rock and dug down a bit around the rock. Couldn't budge the rock prying on it.

Other low water crossing if gravel filled level with the crossing.

Sunday, planning on getting either the backhoe or skid steer out to open up the culverts.

Side note. Area kids have dammed up/rocked up a portion of the stream making a swimming hole.

We had a Woods cat-I 3-pt backhoe for years. It finally got tired and we replaced the loader tractor with a John Deere 300B loader-backhoe. You can do a LOT of good work with those little units, I loved having that small one handy that would fit nicely in the yard at the house when I had a little project.

like the idea of that for planting fruit trees -- just put 20 in this year -- spent many many hours digging some nice 3' holes
