1959 Cub generator belt

Hi guys

I’ve got a 59 which was converted to 12v before I purchased it. This conversion appears to have been done correctly in that the alternator itself did not require cutting through the sheet metal in order to accomodate the installation and all of the brackets appear to be oem. After fifteen years, the belt which operates it snapped so I bought the replacement generator belt which appears to be the same length but the pulley on the alternator itself is much narrower. This causes the belt to ride higher on the pulley, thereby prohibiting it from being able to be installed. All I know about the Alternator is that it is a Delco Remy , but the exact model has been lost to time. My question for the group is this: has anyone ever dealt with this issue before, and if so, what was the resolution? An option that Inam considering is taking the pulley off of my parts tractor generator and putting on the alternator but I have no idea if the shafts are the same size. Any insight would be appreciated.
